HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell at Centenary University 64-53 on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Aaron Johnson-Chavis scored 12 points and notched four blocks to lead the Knights.
Jordan Collins added 11 points.
Billy Cassidy hit three three-pointers for nine points.
The Knights started strong and took a 14-2 lead just over four minutes into the game. One of Cassidy's three-pointer gave Neumann it largest lead of the half, 20-4, with 12:21 on the clock. The Cyclones then started to chip their way into the Knights lead and with 3:20 left before halftime made it to within four, 38-24. Johnson-Chavis hit a free throw as the last basket of the half and the Knights took a 31-27 lead into the break.
With 12:05 left in regulation, Centenary had worked its way back and tied the game at 40. The teams traded baskets over the next six minutes and the teams were again tied, this time at 52. The Cyclones went on to score the next eight points for a 60-52 lead with 2:19 left in regulation. Neumann was only able to net one more point on a free throw and Centenary came away with the come-from-behind win.
Neumann (17-6, 12-4 CSAC) will return home after four road games for the final regular season home game of the season on Wednesday when it hosts Gwynedd Mercy. The Knights will celebrate senior night before the 8:00 PM tip-off.
