ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team knocked off No. 9/8 Utica College 3-2 on Saturday evening in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) match-up.
The Pioneers scored the first two goals of the game, including the lone goal of the first period. With 4:07 left before the second intermission, Utica took a 2-0 lead. Under a minute later, while killing a penalty
Connor Annett scored a shorthanded goal to cut the Pioneers lead in half, 2-1.
Nick Minerva and
Tommy Dougherty tallied the assists.
Minerva tied the game at two five minutes into the third period, just nine seconds into a power play.
Liam Board and
Zac Boyle assisted on the man-advantage goal.
Paul Butler picked the perfect time to score his first collegiate goal, and put the game-winning goal in the back of the net with 4:06 left in regulation.
Barry Kneedler and
Thomas Mansbridge notched the assists.
Matt Gibney turned away 32 shots to pick up his fifth win of the season.
Neumann (9-13-2, 8-5-2 UCHC) will host Stevenson in the regular season finale next Friday evening. Prior to the 7:00 PM faceoff, the Knights will honor its seniors.
