ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team dropped its second game of the weekend at third ranked Elmira College by a score of 7-1 on Saturday afternoon in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.
Katelyn Brown registered Neumann's lone goal of the contest, while
Bek Lucas and Braedon Ott notched assists. Sophomore goalie
Helen Cooney got the start in goal, making 40 saves in the loss.
Needing a tie or a win to clinch home ice in the first round of the UCHC playoffs, Neumann looked to upset the top seeded Soaring Eagles. Unfortunately, Elmira had other ideas. The hosts scored twice in the opening 20 minutes of play and Neumann was forced to play from behind the entire way.
The Knights looked to find their way back into the game in the second stanza, but two more Soaring Eagle goals midway through the frame put Neumann in a hole from which it could not recover. The visitors did get one goal back late in the period as Brown scored off assists from Lucas and Ott, but that was as close as the Knights would get on the afternoon.
Elmira would tack on three more third period tallies to put the game out of reach. Shots for the game finished 47-13 in favor of the Soaring Eagles.
Neumann (12-10-2, 9-6-2) heads to the UCHC playoffs as the fifth-seed and will travel to fourth-seeded Utica College on Saturday, February 24
th at a time yet to be determined. The winner of that matchup will travel to Elmira College for the UCHC semifinals on Saturday, March 3
