Knights Can’t Get Past Cavaliers on Senior Day

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team couldn't get past Cabrini University on Saturday afternoon and fell 69-60 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Prior to the game, the Knights honored their four seniors; Alex Fernandez, Shauntel Williams, Nicole Sipp and Lauren Legler.

Minika Glenn led all scorers with 20 points and added 11 rebounds. Legler netted 12 points and Nafisa Saunders added 11.

The game started out slowly. The first points were not scored until the 5:19 mark when the Cavaliers connected on two free throws. Glenn tied the game at two with two free throws of her own. Legler put the Knights up 4-2 on two more free throws. The score was 4-3 before the first field goal was made by the Cavaliers with 2:12 left in the first quarter. Glenn hit a layup just before the end of the first quarter and Cabrini held a small 9-8 lead.

It did not take as long to get the scoring going in the second quarter, but Cabrini scored the first eight points over the first three minutes. Glenn put Neumann on the board in the second quarter. The Cavaliers built an 11 point lead, 23-12, with 3:44 left before the half. The Knights got back to within five, 23-18, on a three-point play by Saunders. The Cavaliers took a nine point advantage, 29-20, into the break.

The second half was equal with each team taking a few small runs. The gap remained between eight and 16 points throughout the half. The Knights could not get the key basket to get closer than seven. Each team scored 21 points in the third quarter and 19 in the second quarter. The lead built up by Cabrini in the second quarter proved to be the difference.

Neumann (15-6, 10-2 CSAC) will be on the road for the next two games. The Knights will travel to Rosemont on Wednesday evening for CSAC action beginning at 6:00 PM.
