ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team returned to the field for the first time since last weekend, falling at home in non-conference action to Goucher College by a score of 13-4.
Adam Fagan led the team with a pair of goals, while
Eric Conlon and
Bo Olshefsky also scored for Neumann.
Jack Newswanger was excellent on face-offs (13-of-19) and also led the team in groundballs with seven. Despite the score-line,
Brendan Risley was also excellent in goal, stopping 19 shots in the loss.
Goucher controlled play early in the contest, jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of play. The Knights would fight back late in the quarter though, as Conlon ripped a shot into the Gopher goal off a feed from
John McKendry to bring the score back to 2-1 after one period of play.
Neumann continued its momentum early in the second stanza, as Fagan scored his first goal of the game to bring the Knights level at two goals apiece just 1:06 into the quarter. Late in the quarter though, the Gophers found their footing and tallied twice in the final five minutes of the half to go up 4-2 heading into halftime.
A goal from Olshefky just 1:09 into the third quarter brought the Knights back to within one goal, but that was as close as the hosts would get. Goucher responded with six of the game's next seven goals in the quarter to close out the frame with a commanding 10-4 lead.
The Gophers continued to control play in the final quarter of play, outscoring the Knights by a count of 3-0 in the period to take home the comfortable 13-4 road win. Shots for the game finished 59-26 in favor of Goucher.
Neumann (1-5) will return to action next Wednesday, March 21
st when the team plays host to Bard College. The game is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
