ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell late to Montclair State University 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at MapleZone in non-conference action.
John Schoelkopf had three hits and knocked in two runs for the Knights.
Cody MacNair added two knocks.
Josh Cruz started the game and went 3.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
Jared Morris took the loss from the bullpen. He went 3.2 innings and allowed two runs on three hits.
Kutter Endy end went 11.1 innings and struck out four.
Isaiah Morales pitched the final inning.
Neumann jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after two innings. The Knights hit four straight singles in the first inning. Schoelkopf and MacNair scored on a RBI single by
Curt Yenchik and an RBI fielders choice by
Duncan Balara.
Andrew Fowler led off the second getting hit by a pitch and came around to score on a single by Schoelkopf.
The Red Hawks tied the game at three with three runs in the third inning. Montclair took a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning. Neumann tied the game at four on an RBI single by Schoelkopf to score
Zach Ray. The Red Hawks added a run in the seventh and an insurance run in the eighth for the 6-4 score.
In the bottom of the ninth inning,
Jake Urena hit a single to lead off the inning.
Matt McLaughlin was then hit by a pitch for two runners on. The Knights were not able to capitalize on the early baserunners and fell 6-4.
Neumann (8-8) will head to Rowan tomorrow in a rescheduled single game beginning at 3:30 PM.
