iASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action with a pair of wins over Cabrini University on Sunday afternoon at MapleZone. The Knights won the first game 10-1 in six innings. Neumann then took game two 27-14 in five innings.
In the first game,
Kierstin Fallers went 4-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI.
Jackie Schneider knocked in four runs.
Julia Cox went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Grace Sperrazza scored three runs.
Jen Sieminski went the distance in the circle for the win. She allowed just one run on two hits and struck out five in the six innings.
The Knights opened the game by scoring four runs.
Autumn Passarello led off the game with a single and advanced to third on an error. She scored on a single by Fallers. Schneider then knocked in Sperrazza and Fallers on a single. Schneider scored on a single by
Rachel Albertson.
Neumann added a run in the third and two in the fourth. Cox hit a two run single in the sixth to score Sparrazza and Fallers for the 10-1 lead.
The bats were on fire in the second game as the teams combined for 41 runs and hits. Schneider knocked in seven runs in the game. Fallers knocked in five while
Jackie Selby and Cox each knocked in four. Selby also added five hits.
Neumann scored three runs in the top of the first, highlighted by a two-run homerun by Schneider. Cabrini answered by plating nine runs in the bottom of the first for a 9-3 lead. The Knights scored six runs in the top of the second to tie the game at nine and an inning and a half. Fallers hit a two-run single, followed by a two-run triple by Schneider.
The Knights took the lead in the third by sending 10 batter to the plate and scoring five runs. Cox hit a two-run double in fourth inning as part of three more runs. The biggest inning was the fifth inning as Neumann plated 10 runs and sent 12 batter to the plate. Selby, Sparrazza and Schneider both had two RBI hits in the inning.
Taylor Naman picked up the win in the circle as she pitched the complete game.
Neumann (6-3, 2-0 CSAC) will host Marywood tomorrow in a rescheduled CSAC doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
