Softball Splits CSAC Doubleheader with Pacers

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team split a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader with Marywood University on Monday afternoon. The Pacers won the first game 5-4. The Knights came back and took game two 11-1 in five innings.
 
In the first game, the Pacers took a 3-0 lead after three innings. The Knights got a run back in each of the fourth and fifth innings. Kierstin Fallers led the fourth inning off with a triple, one of her four hits in the game, and scored on a fielder's choice by Julia Cox. Autumn Passarello doubled to open the fifth inning and scored on a single by Rachel Albertson.
 
Marywood added a run in the sixth inning and a big insurance run in the top of the seventh for a 5-2 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Fallers singled and Jackie Schneider doubled. Both scored on a single by Cox for a 5-4 score. The Knights could not get the tying run across and fell by one.
 
Jen Sieminski pitched the game and went 7.0 innings. She allowed five runs, four earned, on 10 hits.
 
In game two, Neumann pounded out 13 hits en route to 11 runs. Kristina Del Gaiso and Albertson each had three hits in the game. Albertson, Cox and Grace Sperrazza each knocked in three runs. Taylor Naman pitched the complete game for the win. She went 5.0 innings and allowed one run on four hits.
 
The Knights didn't waste any time and score two run in the bottom of the first inning. Neumann then took advantage of a Marywood error and plated five runs in the second inning. Albertson and Cox both hit two-run doubles in the inning. In the third inning, Sperrazza hit a bases clearing double and then scored on a single by Albertson for an 11-0 lead. Mayrywood scored its run in the top of the fourth.
 
Neumann (7-4, 3-1 CSAC) will host Cedar Crest on Thursday for more conference action. The doubleheader is slated to get underway at 3:00 PM.
