ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team battled and took a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contests from Cedar Crest College on Thursday afternoon. Game scores were 8-3 and 4-3.
Kierstin Fallers went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the first game.
Rachel Albertson and
Kate Korte' each had two hits.
Jen Sieminski picked up the win, going 7.0 innings. She allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits while striking out five.
The Knights jumped on the board early and plated four runs in the first inning. The first two batters reached on walks. Fallers knocked in the first run with a single.
Julia Cox hit a two-run double and came around to score on a single by
Jackie Selby.
Neumann added four more runs in the fourth inning for an 8-0 lead. Fallers hit a two-run homerun in the inning.
The Falcons scored a run in the fifth and two more in the seventh, but the Knights took the game 8-3.
In game two, Neumann again scored early, this time with two runs in the first inning.
Grace Sperrazza and Albertson hit back-to-back singles to open the inning. Sperrazza scored on an RBI groundout by Cox while Albertson scored on a single by Kotre'.
Cedar Crest scored three unearned runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-2 lead. Korte' walked to lead off the bottom of the fourth and scored the tying run on a single by
Brooke Figiel.
Heading into the bottom of the seventh, the teams were still knotted at three. Cox singled and
Bri Lagroteria pinch ran. Korte' walked for two runners on with one out.
Autumn Passarello hit a groundball to second base, which was thrown away. Lagroteria took off for home and score the game-winning run.
Taylor Sirolli pitched the complete game for the win. She allowed three unearned runs on eight hits and struck out three.
Neumann (9-4, 5-1 CSAC) will host Alvernia on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
