LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team swept a doubleheader at Cairn University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Friday afternoon. The Knights won the games by scores of 19-1 and 20-2, both in five innings.
In the first game, the Knights combined for 19 runs on 20 hits.
Rachel Albertson and
Julia Cox each had three hits.
Jackie Schneider and
Kate Korte' each knocked in three runs.
Zina Naughton scored four runs and drew three walks.
Julia Casson got her first collegiate start and allowed one run on four hits and struck out five over five innings.
The Knights plated three runs in the top of the first inning to get the game started. Schneider knocked in two runs with a triple and then scored on a single by Korte'. The Highlanders scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning.
Neumann then exploded for 13 runs in the second inning.
Kierstin Fallers,
Jackie Selby and Cox all had two-RBI hits in the inning.
In game two, Schneider hit a two-run double in the first as the Knights went up 6-0 after the top of the first.
Bri Lagroteria also had a two-RBI hit in the first inning in her second at-bat of the inning. In the second inning, Neumann plated another 10 runs.
Taylor Sirolli,
Carli Trice and Korte' all had two-RBI hits in the inning.
Schneider, Sirolli and Trice all knocked in three RBI in the game. Fallers, Schneider, Lagratoria and Korte' all had three hits in the game.
Taylor Naman got the win in the circle, going five innings. She allowed two runs on three hits.
Neumann (11-4, 7-1 CSAC) will head to Stockton for a non-conference doubleheader on Monday beginning at 3:00 PM.
