ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team dropped a doubleheader to Alvernia University on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action. Game scores were 4-0 and 6-4.
In the first game, Alvernia struck early and scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Neumann put runners on base in the first two inning, but left the bases loaded in both inning.
Jen Sieminski pitched the complete game. She allowed four runs on six hits .The sophomore retired the final 10 batters of the game and allowed just one base runner, who reached on an error, after the first two batters singled to start the second inning.
In the second game, the Knights scored a single run in each of the first four innings.
Jackie Selby hit a triple to start the home half of the first inning and scored on a ground out by
Jackie Schneider. In the second inning,
Taylor Sirolli singled and scored on a double by Selby.
Kierstin Fallers led off the third with a triple and scored on another RBI groundout by Schneider.
Kristina Del Gaiso walked to start the fourth inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Schneider.
The Golden Wolves took advantage of some Knights miscues and scored five runs, but just one earned, in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead. They added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Selby was a homerun short of the cycle as she hit a triple, double and single in the game. Schneider knocked in three runs. Sirolli finished with game with three hits.
Taylor Naman went 7.0 innings in the circle and allowed six runs, two earned, on eight hits.
Neumann (11-8) gets back to conference action on Friday when it hosts Centenary. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 3:00 PM.
