ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's lacrosse team found its way into the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win column on Saturday afternoon, picking up a much needed 12-7 victory over Keystone College.
Chris Augustine,
Colin Blake and
Eric Conlon all scored three times for Neumann, while
Ryan McNichol added two tallies.
Antonio Gibson,
Brendan Risley and Johnnie Gallagher split time in goal, combining for 7 saves in the win.
Eager to pick up their first conference win of the season, the Knights came out ready to play in the opening quarter. After trading goals with the Giants in the first eight minutes of the contest, Neumann began to take control of the game midway through the frame. Using three unanswered goals just two minutes apart from McNichol, Conlon and Blake, the Knights jumped out to a 4-1 lead at the 4:49 mark. The Giants got a goal back late in the quarter, but Neumann took a 4-2 lead into the second stanza.
Keystone got even closer as the second quarter began, cutting the Neumann lead to 4-3 just over a minute into the period. It would be all Knights the rest of the half though, as goals from Augustine and Blake sent the game to halftime with the hosts leading by three at 6-3.
Continuing its late half momentum, Neumann opened the game wide open in the second half.
Adam Fagan scored 48 seconds into the third quarter and the Knights tacked on four more unanswered markers to take a commanding 11-3 lead with 8:26 left in the game. Keystone tried to make things interesting with four of the game's final five goals, but it was too little, too late as Neumann walked away with the 12-7 victory.
Neumann (2-10, 1-3 CSAC) will look for another CSAC win on Wednesday, April 18th when the team hosts Immaculata University. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
