GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team split a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contests at Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won the first game 18-4 in five innings. The Griffins took the second game 6-4.
In the first game, Neumann exploded for 18 hits and 18 runs. In the first inning, the Knights scored three runs to get on the board early.
Jackie Schneider had a two-run single in the inning. In the second inning,
Grace Sperrazza led off with a triple and scored on an RBI groundout by
Kristina Del Gaiso.
In the third inning, Neumann plated 12 runs.
Kate Korte' and Schneider each had a two-RBI hit in the inning. The Knights added two more runs in the fourth.
Jen Sieminski went 5.0 innings in the circle for the win. She allowed four runs on five hits and struck out five.
In game two, Schneider knocked in
Rachel Albertson for the first run of the game. Schneider then hit a two-run homerun for put the Knights up 3-0 in the top of the third inning. The Griffins answered with two runs in the bottom of the third.
The Knights scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. The Griffins scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, two unearned, to take the lead, 6-4.
Taylor Naman took the loss, going 6.0 innings. She allowed six runs, four earned, on five hits.
Neumann (14-9, 10-2 CSAC) will host Rosemont on Monday in a conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
