ASTON, Pa. – After a tough loss in the team's last game versus Marywood, the Neumann University women's lacrosse team rebounded with a decisive 19-9 victory in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action over visiting Notre Dame of Maryland University.
It was a monumental day in program history, as
Kaitlyn Conrad set multiple single-season records on the day. The junior attacker scored eight times in the game to bring her season goal total to 72 goals, passing Alexandra Bohen (69 goals- 2011) for first all-time in goals in a single season. In addition to the goal scoring record, Conrad also added two assists for a 10-point day, setting a new program-record for points in a season at 102. That total helped her eclipse Kolleen Kitzenger's 100 point total from the 2006 season.
Brittany Cassidy was also outstanding in the win, notching seven points (5 g, 2 a), while
Calie Swegon chipped in with four points (3 g, 1 a).
Gabby Curry got the win in goal, stopping 11 shots on the day.
The opening ten minutes of play were full of goals from both teams, as the two sides combined for nine tallies. Notre Dame held a 5-4 lead at the 20:14 mark, but a strong Neumann defense and continued scoring prowess helped the Knights start to pull away. The 5-4 deficit was the last time the hosts would trail, as the team reeled off eight unanswered goals to take a 12-5 lead late in the half. The Gators answered back with a goal with 2:14 left in the first frame, but Neumann took a 12-6 lead into halftime.
The Knights wasted no time continuing to build on their lead. Cassidy scored just over a minute into the second stanza and then Conrad set the all-time program record for goals in a season at the 25:39 mark with her 70
th marker of the season to give Neumann a 14-6 lead. The two teams each scored three times apiece after that to make the score 17-9 before Conrad set her second record of the game. With 4:03 remaining, the junior attacker scored off a feed from Swegon for her 101
st point of the season to set a new all-time single season points record. To cap off the historic day, Conrad then added an assist on the game's final goal by
Meghan McKewen to bring her season points total to 102.
