LA PLUME, Pa. – The Neumann University baseball team fell in a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contests at Keystone College on Saturday afternoon. The Giants won by scores of 6-0 and 10-9.
In the first game,
Phil Sanborn pitched complete game in the loss. He allowed six runs on nine hits and struck out three.
Joey Pedorenko had two of the Knights three hits in the game.
In the second game, Neumann got on the board first with two runs in the fourth inning.
Cody MacNair scored on a sacrifice fly by
Tyler Ramos and Pedorenko scored on a double by
Curt Yenchik.
The Giants answered with three runs in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth for an 8-2 lead.
The Knights sent 13 batters to the plate in the top of the eighth inning and took advantage of some Giants miscues to score seven runs and take their first lead of the afternoon.
Zach Ray hit a two-run double, followed by a two-run single by
Andrew Fowler to highlight the inning.
Joey Gorman hit a pinch-hit single and scored the go-ahead run on a single by
Marty Cortellessa, giving the Knights a 9-8 lead.
The Giants answered right away and scored two runs, only one earned, in the bottom of the eighth, to take back the lead. Down by one in the ninth inning, the Knights could not get the tying run on base and fell 10-9.
Grant Wallace started the game and went the first 4.1 innings. He allowed five runs, two earned, on eight hits and struck out two.
Kutter Endy took over and went the next 2.2 innings. He allowed three runs on five hits and struck out two.
Josh Cruz came in for the eighth inning and allowed two runs, one earned, and suffered his first loss of the season.
Neumann (15-17, 6-2 CSAC) will head to Immaculata on Tuesday to continue CSAC action. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
