Women's Lacrosse to Host Keystone in CSAC First Round

4/27/2018 2:36:00 PM

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team begins Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason play this Saturday at 12:00 PM when it hosts Keystone College in the first round of the CSAC playoffs.

The Knights finished CSAC play with a record of 5-3 to earn the No. 4 seed heading into playoffs. Neumann will square off against the No. 5 seeded Giants, who enter the postseason with a CSAC record of 4-4.

Neumann will look to replicate their matchup versus sixth seeded Keystone earlier this season, when the Knights prevailed by a score of 19-7. The other conference first round matchup this weekend features third seeded Immaculata University versus sixth seeded Gwynedd Mercy University.

The Knights have been led offensively all season by junior Kaitlyn Conrad, who leads the team in goals (76), assists (32) and points (108). Her 76 goals and 108 points are both program records for a season. Joining Conrad in the attack are Calie Swegon and Brittany Cassidy, who have each scored over 30 goals this season for Neumann. Swegon is second on the team in goals (37) and points (46) while Cassidy has been outstanding all over the field for the Knights. The junior midfielder is third on the team in goals (32) and points (40), and has also picked up a team-high 39 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers.

On the defensive end, Neumann relies on senior net-minder Gabby Curry. Earning first-team All-CSAC honors, Curry has gone 9-8 this season, making 179 saves on the season for a 12.92 goals against average. In addition to Curry, Lydia Beckman has also been outstanding on defense, picking up a team-high 52 draw controls to go along with 12 caused turnovers and 24 ground balls.

A win over the Giants on Saturday would see Neumann through to the CSAC semifinals, where they would take on Cabrini University on Wednesday, May 2nd.
