Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Neumann University men's tennis team saw its season come to an end on Saturday evening in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinals, falling by a score of 5-2 to Clarks Summit University.
Daniel Rival did his best to keep the Knights in the match, winning at both first doubles with partner
Rod Bradbury, as well as at first singles to pick up both of Neumann's wins on the evening.
The match opened with Clarks Summit taking two of the three doubles contests. Rival and Bradbury took home the lone point as the Knights fell in two other close matches. In a major turning point on the night,
Christian Cortese and
Jordan Collins lost a heart-breaker at second doubles in a tie-breaker by a score of 9-8 (7-5).
As the teams moved to singles competition, again it was Rival who earned Neumann's only win. The sophomore took home a victory at first singles (6-1, 6-2), but unfortunately for the Knights, the team lost three other matches to seal the victory for the Defenders. The remainder of the matches went unfinished, as Clarks Summit had already clinched the win.
Neumann (8-4) finishes its season in the CSAC semifinals for the second consecutive season. The Knights will miss their four graduating seniors, but will return several key players next year as they look to build on another strong season.
