READING, Pa. – The Neumann University women's volleyball team was victorious on the road at Penn State Berks on Wednesday evening, taking home a 3-1 win (25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 25-12).
Melanie Malseed was excellent for Neumann on the evening, picking up 16 kills to go along with 13 digs. Setter
Rachel Cray led the team with 41 assists, while
Hayley Glah picked up 16 digs.
Bre Hickey also picked up three blocks in the win.
Neumann jumped on the hosts early, winning the first two sets fairly comfortably. In the first set with the score tied at 9-9, the Knights went on a 16-8 rally to take a 25-17 win. The second set was much closer, but Neumann would close it out by a score of 25-22. The Nittany Lions went on a 5-1 run to start the set, but Neumann used a six point rally midway through the frame to work its way back in front by a count of 14-9. Berks fought back to get the set to 23-21, but the Knights closed out the match with two kills by
Ariana Pena to take a 2-0 lead.
Penn State Berks battled back to take the third set by a score of 25-22, but the Knights would regroup and dominate the fourth and final set. Neumann won the final set easily by a count of 25-12, led by six kills from Malseed.
Neumann (8-7) has the weekend off before returning to the court on Tuesday, September 25
th at Elizabethtown College. The match is slated to start at 7:00 PM.
