ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team fell for the second straight day versus Morrisville State College by a score of 7-3 in non-conference action.
Jackie Schneider was the offensive catalyst on the day for the Knights, tallying twice in the loss.
Steph Grundy also scored for Neumann, who got 52 saves from goaltender
Alexa Lamplugh.
After falling behind in the first period of last night's game, Morrisville State wasted no time jumping out in front in Saturday's matinee. The Mustangs scored just 1:17 into play to take an early 1-0 lead. The rest of the period would see the teams go back and forth. Schneider banged home the rebound of an
Angeline Taiariol shot to level the contest at 1-1 at the 5:07 mark, but the visitors answered back two minutes later to regain a 2-1 lead. Grundy again knotted the game up with a wrist shot off the Mustang net-minder's blocker and in to tie things up at 2-2, but Morrisville State again retaliated with three minutes left in the frame to take a 3-2 lead into intermission.
The second period was much quieter on the scoresheet as both teams defended well to keep the 3-2 score-line intact. Midway through the frame though, Schneider deflected home a
Syd Ladwig shot from the point to bring the Knights back to even on the scoreboard at 3-3. Unfortunately for the hosts, a recurring theme from earlier in the game happened again. The Mustangs answered back with a goal of their own just 1:24 later to take a 4-3 lead into the final 20 minutes of play.
Neumann had a golden opportunity to get things tied early in the third with a 5-on-3 power play, but the Knights could not score and the game remained 4-3 in favor of the visitors. Morrisville State then pulled away late, scoring three third period goals to skate home with the comfortable 7-3 victory.
Neumann (5-13-0, 4-7-0 UCHC) will return to the ice next weekend for a pair of big UCHC games at Manhattanville College. Puck-drop on Saturday in New York is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
