NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell in the consolation game of the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday tournament on Saturday afternoon, losing 6-2 to Buffalo State College.
Mario Tropea had a solid debut for the Knights with assists on both goals on the day, while
Joe Mitchell and
Zac Boyle scored for Neumann. Kyle Pantelone got the start in goal for the Knights, making 34 saves in the loss.
Neumann came out of the gates fast on the day, scoring just under five minutes into the game when Boyle scored off a feed from Tropea to give the Knights an early 1-0 lead. Buffalo State would answer back quickly though, retaliating with a goal of its own a minute later to knot the contest up at one apiece. The Bengals continued to roll the remainder of the period, scoring three more unanswered goals to head to the first intermission with a 4-1 lead.
A scoreless second period sent the game to the third frame with the Knights still trailing by three goals. Neumann fought hard to get back into the contest, outshooting Buffalo State by a count of 14-10 in the period, but the Bengals made it count where it matters most. Buffalo State tallied twice in the period, compared to just one goal from the Knights as the game finished 6-2 in favor of the Bengals.
Neumann (0-12-2, 0-6-2 UCHC) will look to bounce back next weekend when it returns home for the first time in 2019. The Knights will play host to Anna Maria College on Friday, January 11
th at 7:00 PM.
