Big Second Half Leads Men's Soccer to Win Over Griffins

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's soccer team found its way back into the win column on Saturday afternoon, picking up a much needed win in Atlantic East Conference action at Gwynedd Mercy University by a score of 3-1.

Ainsley Reid player a part in all three goals on the afternoon for the Knights, scoring twice and adding an assist. Nick Testa also scored for Neumann, while Seth Walker made three saves in goal to pick up the win in net.

After a tough loss on Wednesday at Marymount, the Knights came out eager for a win on Saturday afternoon. Playing most of the half in the Griffins end, Neumann peppered the Gwynedd Mercy goal with seven first half shots. Despite dominating play though, it would be the Griffins who broke through with the game's first goal. After a Griffin forward was hauled down in the Neumann box on a counter attack, the hosts struck with a penalty kick goal to take a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute.

The visitors did not quit though, generating one of their best chances with just seconds left in the first frame. After applying pressure in the Gwynedd Mercy end, a ball in behind the host's back line that was heading into the net was hand-balled by the Griffin net-minder outside the box resulting in a red card. A Daniel Rival free kick missed narrowly wide, but as the game went to halftime the visitors would have an entire half up a man to comeback.

As the game moved to the second stanza, Neumann took a stranglehold on the match. With the man-advantage, the Knights created chances early and often in the half. The visitors leveled the score just nine minutes into the frame as Reid banged home a low, driven Johan Silvestre cross from the right flank to even the contest at 1-1. Neumann continued to apply relentless pressure in the Griffin end, finding the game-winning goal ten minutes later. Reid again worked his magic, finding Testa at the top of the box before the senior forward buried his second goal in as many games into the left side netting to make it 2-1 with 26 minutes left to play.

The visitors were not done yet though, killing off the game in the 80th minute with Reid's second goal of the contest. Tenzin Choedak used a bit of individual skill to get open on the right flank before delivering a perfect cross to Reid, who tucked home his fourth goal of the year to seal the win for the Knights. Neumann outshot the Griffins by a count of 16-5 in the contest.

Neumann (4-9-1, 2-2 Atlantic East) will have a few days to recover before playing its final non-conference game of the season next Tuesday, October 22nd at Johns Hopkins University. The game is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
