Men's Soccer Downed by Wesley on Senior Day

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's soccer team closed out the regular season portion of its schedule on Wednesday evening, falling by a score of 5-2 at the hands of visiting Wesley College in Atlantic East Conference action.

Marlon Trejo and Zach Desrosier were the goal scorers on the evening for the Knights, while Seth Walker made seven saves in goal in the loss.

In a game that would decide home-field in the first round of the Atlantic East Conference playoffs, the Wolverines struck first blood in the 23rd minute, converting a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. The Knights fought back immediately though, taking the ensuing kick-off down the field and drawing a penalty kick of their own just 34 seconds later. Trejo then stepped up and buried the spot kick to level the contest at 1-1 with half of the first frame to play. Unfortunately for Neumann, the hosts could not keep the positive momentum rolling. Wesley found the back of the net twice in the final 15 minutes of the period to lead 3-1 at halftime.

The Knights looked to get back into the game in the second half, but had their hopes immediately dashed with a Wolverine goal just 45 seconds into the stanza that made it 4-1. Neumann did not quit and fought hard the rest of the way, but the three goal deficit proved to much to overcome. The hosts got one goal back in the 69th minute from Desrosier but 4-2 was as close as they could make it. Wesley took home the all important conference win and clinched the four-seed in the upcoming conference playoffs.

Despite the loss, Neumann (4-12-1, 2-4 Atlantic East) will have an immediate chance for revenge this Saturday, November 2nd. The fifth-seeded Knights will head to Dover to take on fourth-seeded Wesley for a rematch in an Atlantic East Conference first round matchup. Game-time for the playoff contest has yet to be determined.
