Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey Shutout at Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team couldn't find the win column on Friday evening, falling by a score of 4-0 to host Elmira College in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action.

Kyle Pantalone made 35 saves in goal in the loss, while Barry Kneedler led the team with six shots on goal.

The Soaring Eagles took advantage of an early Neumann penalty to draw first blood in the conference tilt. Elmira lit the lamp with the extra man just 5:15 into the game to gain a 1-0 lead that the hosts would hold for much of the first frame. The Knights registered six shots in the period, but could not find the back of the net. Just as the game looked to be heading to intermission with a goal separating the two teams, Elmira doubled its lead in the final minute of play to make it 2-0 after 20 minutes of play.

Elmira continued to roll into the second stanza. The Soaring Eagles killed off an early Neumann power play, then added a third goal via their own man-advantage at the 9:25 mark to make it 3-0. It would not take long for the hosts to strike again, scoring just three minutes later to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

The Knights tried to fight their way back into the game in the final 20 minutes, but could not get any positive momentum going. The visitors recorded six shots in the period, but none would beat the Elmira goaltender. With a comfortable four goal lead, the Soaring Eagles cruised the rest of the way to the 4-0 UCHC victory.

Neumann (0-3-0, 0-3-0 UCHC) returns home tomorrow night for another conference matchup with Lebanon Valley College. Puck-drop for the home contest is scheduled for 7:00 PM at IceWorks.
