ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Purchase College in its first game of the Scotty Wood Tournament 75-50 on Friday afternoon.
Waheem Lowman led the Knights with 18 points.
Haneef Vaughn netted 15 points and grabbed nine boards.
Sanoussi Abdourhamane scored 13 points and eight boards while
Anthony Mitchell added 11 points.
The Panthers held control of the first part of the game and held a 20-8 advantage with 13 minutes left in the first half. The Knights then went on an 18-6 run to tie the game at 26. A layup by Abdourhamane gave Neumann a 31-30 lead with 3:21 left before halftime. The Knights took a 37-35 lead at the break.
The second half was a different story as the Knights outscored the Panthers 38-15. A three-pointer by Mitchell put Neumann up by double-digits. The Knights steadily increased their lead throughout the rest of regulation en route to the 75-50 final.
Neumann (3-2) will face host Muhlenberg College tomorrow evening in the Championship game. Tip-off is slated for 8:00 PM.
