ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team picked up their second win of the season over Penn State Abington on Saturday afternoon in the Scotty Wood Tournament by a score of 57-55.
Shaylah Green led the Knights with a total of 17 points on the afternoon and was named to the All-Tournament team.
Terea Hunt followed with 13 points and four assists.
Kiara Stovall and
Chelsea Keebler each tallied six points for the win.
The Knights came out slow in the beginning of the first quarter until Hunt put up their first basket of the matchup. As the quarter continued the both teams dueled, but Nittany Lions held the Knights back going into the second quarter 15-14. Starting off the second quarter it was Penn State Abington who came out hot on the court, but it was Green who put the Knights in the lead with a free throw to make it a 32-31 game going into halftime.
Neumann came out to start the third quarter right off the bat to open a scoring gap up to seven points five minutes in making it a 41-34 game. The Nittany Lions fought back hard, closing the gap to a basket to end the period 44-42.
Green opened up the scoring of the fourth quarter less than a minute in, but Penn State Abington responded back quickly tying the game 46-46 less than a minute later. The next seven minutes were a close fight, but Green ended the duel by netting two free throws and took Neumann to its 57-55 win.
Neumann (3-3) will prepare to host Widener University on Tuesday evening. Game time is set to begin at 6:00 PM.
