Men's Hockey Stumbles Versus St. Norbert

ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell for the second consecutive day in non-conference action, dropping an 8-2 result to visiting St. Norbert College on Saturday afternoon.

Zac Boyle and Thomas Mansbridge were the Neumann goal scorers on the day, while Mike Cosentino made 36 saves in goal in the loss.

A bit of luck and some solid early play led to a quick start for the Knights. Cosentino stopped a breakaway attempt from the Green Knights two minutes into play, then a minute later a St. Norbert shot rattled off the post as the game remained scoreless. Despite the early chances for the visitors, it would be Neumann who would break through with the game's first goal. Using a power play to their advantage, the Knights made it 1-0 when a Boyle wrist shot from the right circle found the back of the net at the 5:23 mark. Unfortunately for the Knights though, it would be their last lead of the game. St. Norbert stormed back late in the period with two goals less than a minute apart to take a 2-1 lead into intermission.

Neumann did their best to get the contest leveled, but the Green Knights would add to their lead in the second stanza. St. Norbert tallied twice in the frame to take a comfortable 4-1 lead into the third.

Neumann got a glimmer of hope for a comeback with a Mansbridge snipe just 1:26 into the final frame, but the Green Knights extinguished any chance of rally from the hosts with four unanswered goals in the game's final ten minutes to win by a score of 8-2. Shots for the non-conference matchup ended 44-30 in favor of St. Norbert.

Neumann (2-6) returns to conference action next week when the team heads to King's College for a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) contest on Friday, December 6th. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
