SELINGSGROVE, Pa. – The Neuman University men's basketball team battled at Susquehanna University on Saturday but fell 87-83 in overtime.
Haneef Vaughn led the Knights as he tallied a triple-double: 27 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists.
Sanoussi Abdourhamane netted 19 points as four Knights reached double-digits.
Anthony Mitchell scored 14 while
Waheem Lowman added 12.
The Red Hawks held the largest lead of the game in the first half, 16-8, with 12:14 on the clock. Over the next six minutes, the Knights went on a 13-5 run to tie the game at 21. Susquehanna then went on a 9-2 run for a 30-23 advantage. Neumann ended the half on a 9-2 as well and the teams went into the locker room knotted at 32.
Susquehanna held the lead for the first part of the second half, holding a lead as large as seven a few times. A three-pointer by Mitchell put Neumann in lead, 62-60, with five minutes left in regulation. The teams traded baskets during the rest of regulation and featured four tied scores, including at 71 when the buzzer sounded.
After trading the first few baskets in overtime, the Red Hawks used two three-pointers and two free throws to take an 83-77 lead. Vaughn hit two three-pointers down the stretch, but Susquehanna used free-throws to keep Neumann at arm's length and to come away with the 87-83 win.
Neumann (6-6) will now take a break over the holidays. The Knights will be back on the court on January 4 when they travel to Franklin & Marshall. Tip-off to 2020 is at 3:00 PM.
