WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell at Wilkes University 54-40 on Thursday evening in the final game of the 2019 calendar year.
 
Terea Hunt led the Knights with nine points. Jaylin Ortiz and Chelsea Keebler each netted eight points.
 
The Colonels kept the pace in the first quarter and jumped out to a 13-4 lead after the first 10 minutes. Neither team found the net much in the second quarter, but Neumann outscored Wilkes 7-2 to pull within four, 15-11, at the half.
 
The Knights scored the first points of the third quarter on a jumper by Ortiz, but the Colonels answered with the next seven. The teams went back and forth for the rest of the quarter and Wilkes took a 35-28 lead into the final 10 minutes.
 
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Knights pulled to within four, 38-34. Over the next few minutes, the Colonels went on a 10-3 run for an 11-point advantage, 48-37, with 2:35 on the clock. Wilkes connected on its free throws down the stretch to pull away with the 54-40 win.
 
Neumann (4-7) will get back on the court at the Moravian Steel Club Classic on January 4 and 5. The Knights will face host Moravian in their first game on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
