ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's ice hockey team will travel to William Smith College in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) first-round match-up on Saturday, February 23rd at 4:00 PM.
The Knights finished the season 7-10-1 in UCHC play, clinching a playoff spot on the last day of the season with a 4-0 victory over King's to earn the sixth seed in the conference playoffs. William Smith enters the postseason with a record of 12-4-2 in the UCHC. The Herons won their first ten contests of the season before stumbling down the stretch to a 6-7-2 record after Christmas to close out the season.
During the regular season, William Smith took down Neumann twice in the two meetings between the teams just after Thanksgiving. The Herons won 4-0 on November 30th and 6-1 on December 1st.
Jackie Schneider scored the lone goal in the loss for the Knights.
Schneider has led the Knights offensively this season with 21 goals and six assists for 27 points on the year.
Katelyn Brown has also been excellent in her sophomore season, racking up 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points.
Jordyn Cholish,
Steph Grundy and
Angeline Taiariol also all have 13 points on the season.
In goal, Neumann has relied on fantastic play from junior
Helen Cooney. The net-minder has been consistent all year long, posting a 2.71 goals against average and a .938 save percentage to go along with three shutouts in 22 games played. Her save percentage ranks her third overall among UCHC goaltenders.
The other first round UCHC contest features Manhattanville hosting Utica on Saturday at 3:00 PM. The winners of the two first round contests will move on to the semifinals at Elmira and Nazareth next weekend.
