CLERMONT, Fla. – The Neumann University softball team picked up two shutout wins during the annual spring break trip on Monday afternoon. The Knights defeated Northern Vermont – Johnson 13-0 in five innings and Hanover 9-0, also in five innings.
In the first game against the Badgers, the Knights won 13-0 in five innings.
Kaylee Fiocca knocked in five runs on two hits and scored two runs.
Emily Reid scored three runs.
Taylor Naman pitched the complete game shutout. In 5.0 innings, she allowed just two hits and struck out three.
Neumann struck early and scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Fiocca tripled with two runners on base for the first two runs. She then scored on an RBI ground out by
Vanessa Bowen.
The Knights sent 13 batter to the plate in the second inning and plated seven runs.
Lauren Edwards and Fiocca each had two-run singles in the inning. Neumann added three more runs in the fourth inning for the 13-0 final.
In game two against Hanover, the Knights broke out for four runs in the third, one in the fourth and four in the fifth for the 9-0 final.
Kristina Del Gaiso scored three runs in the game.
During the four-run third inning,
Rachel Albertson had a two-run single. Bowen hit a three-run triple in the fifth inning to score
Carli Trice and
Jackie Selby. Fiocca continued her hot hitting and knocked a triple to score Bown and Del Gaiso and end the game.
Jen Sieminski pitched the complete game shutout. She allowed four hits and struck out two.
Neumann (4-0) continues action tomorrow with contests against Rose-Hulman and Capital.
