Softball Continues to Roll in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Neumann University softball team continued to roll during its spring break trip and picked up two more wins, both in five innings, on Tuesday. The Knights defeated Rose-Hulman 11-3 and Capital 12-4.
 
To start the day against Rose-Hulman, Kate Korte' had four hits and knocked in two runs. Jen Sieminski pitched the complete game for the win. All three runs were unearned.
 
The Fightin' Engineers scored the first three runs of the game, all unearned, in the first inning. The Knights tied the game at three in the top of the second. With one out, Vanessa Bowen hit a double and scored on a triple by Kaylee Fiocca. Fiocca scored on a single by Bri Lagroteria. Grace Sperrazza, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a throwing error to tie the game.
 
The Knights plated seven runs in the third inning. With one out, seven straight batters reached base. Kristina Del Gaiso hit a two-run double in the mix.
 
In the fifth inning, Kierstin Fallers walked and scored on a double by Korte' for the 11-3 final.
 
Against the Crusaders, the teams traded runs in the second inning. After Capital took a 1-0 lead, Bowen stepped to the plate and hit her first collegiate homerun.
 
Capital scored two runs in the top of the third. Neumann answered with seven runs in the bottom of the third. The first four batters of the inning reached. Jackie Schneider hit a two-run single and Sperrazza followed with a two-run double in the inning.
 
With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Sperrazza doubled and came around to score on an error. Korte' hit a two-run single. With two outs, Bowen hit a single and Brooke Figiel ended up scoring on an error on the play to give the Knights the 12-4 win.
 
Taylor Naman pitched the complete game for the win. Bowen finished the game with three hits.
 
Neumann (6-0) will take tomorrow off and will get back on the field on Thursday.
