MADISON, N.J. – The Neumann University men's basketball season came to an end with a 71-68 loss to Drew University in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) first round match-up on Wednesday evening.
Raquan Brown-Johnson led the Knights with 22 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Waheem Lowman netted 16 points and
Isaiah Wilmore tallied 12.
Mark Perry grabbed 12 rebounds while
Sanoussi Abdourhamane had 10 boards.
Midway through the first half, the teams were knotted at 15. Perry hit a three-pointer to start seven straight points for the Knights. Holding a 28-25 edge, Neumann scored the final nine points of the half to take a 37-25 lead into the break.
The Knights scored the first four points of the second half for their biggest lead of the game, 41-25. The Rangers went on a 19-4 run over the next five and a half minutes to pull to within one, 45-44, with 13 minutes remaining in regulation.
Neumann netted the next six points to increase its lead back up to seven, 51-44. With eight minutes left on the clock, Drew tied the game at 54. The teams would have three more tied scores with the last coming with 2:41 left and the scoreboard knotted at 63.
The Rangers scored the next four points. Brown-Johnson was fouled on a three-pointer and made 2-of-3 for get back within two. Drew again scored the next four points, including two free throws, to increase to a 71-65 lead with 14 seconds on the clock. The Knights missed on their next possession and fouled again. The Rangers missed and Perry grabbed the rebound. Lowman hit a three before the buzzer, but the clock ran out before Neumann fell three points short, 71-68.
Neumann finishes its season 13-13.
