Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Fast Start Leads Men's Hockey to Win at King's

PITTSDON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's ice hockey team bounced back after a tough loss Friday with a much needed 6-1 win in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action on the road at King's College on Saturday afternoon.

Thomas Mansbridge tallied twice and Eric Madison chipped in with three assists in the win. Zac Boyle, Tommy Dougherty, Barry Kneedler and Chris Ordoobadi also scored for Neumann, who received 20 saves in goal from Kyle Pantalone.

Needing a win to stay in the hunt for the final UCHC playoff spot, the Knights came out on fire to start the contest. Dominating from the opening whistle, Neumann blitzed the Monarchs for five unanswered goals in the first frame. Mansbridge opened the game with his eighth goal of the season on the power play at 3:30 to put the Knights up 1-0, then the visitors blew the game wide open midway through the period.

It took Neumann just 59 seconds to widen its one goal lead to a comfortable 4-0 advantage. Kneedler scored the team's second power play goal of the game at 13:19, then Mansbridge and Ordoobadi found the back of the net in quick succession to put the Knights up by four. With the period winding down, Dougherty capped off the first period frenzy with the visitors' fifth goal of the period at 17:45 to give Neumann a 5-0 lead after one.

The Knights continued to roll in the second stanza, ending the period with a 27-12 edge in shots. Madison picked up his third assist of the contest on a Boyle goal at 10:18 to make the score 6-0 Neumann heading to the third.

King's got one goal back in the third, but it was not nearly enough to get back into the game. Pantalone was sharp in the frame, making eight saves to close out the 6-1 road victory and keep the Knights alive in the UCHC playoff hunt.

Neumann (6-14-4, 5-8-4 UCHC) will close out the regular season portion of its schedule next Friday, February 15th with a road game at UCHC rival Manhattanville College at 7:00 PM. The Knights currently sit in the final UCHC playoff spot, but next weekend's games around the conference will decide their postseason fate.
