CLERMONT, Fla. – The Neumann University softball team split its games in the Florida finale on Friday. The Knights held on for an 11-10 win over Capital in the first game. Neumann then fell to Eastern Nazarene 9-1 in five innings in the final contest.
Against Capital, Neumann pounded out 18 hits, led by
Jackie Selby with four.
Jackie Schneider and
Kaylee Fiocca each had three.
Grace Sperrazza knocked in three runs.
The Knights got on the board in the second inning as Sperrazza hit a two-run double. The Crusaders answered with a run in the bottom of the second. The teams then traded runs in the third inning for a 4-2 game.
Fiocca knocked in two runs in the fourth with a double to put Neumann up 5-2. The Knights plated six runs in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double by
Bri Lagroteria, to increase their lead to 11-2. Capital was not going to go quietly and scored five runs in the home half of the fifth.
The Crusaders scored a run in the sixth and two in the bottom of the seventh for pull within one. Capital had a runner on second and only one out when the ball was lined to center field. Selby made the running catch in centerfield, doubled off the runner at second and the Knights held on for the 11-10 win.
Jen Sieminski picked up the win, going the first 4.2 innings.
Taylor Naman got the save, going the final 2.1 innings.
In the final game of the week, Neumann scattered eight hits. Fiocca started her first collegiate game in the circle and went 3.0 innings in the loss.
Nicole Wisser pitched the final 2.0 innings.
The Lions scored early with two runs in the first, three in the second and three in the third. The Knights scored an unearned run in the second inning as
Rachel Albertson knocked in Schneider. Eastern Nazarene added an insurance run in the fifth inning.
Neumann comes back north with a record of 7-3. The Knights are slated to play next on March 14 when they head to Albright College for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
