READING, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took the field for the first time since spring break and split a pair of games at Albright College on Thursday afternoon. The Lions won game one 10-2 in five innings while the Knights took game two 11-3 in six innings.
In game one, Neumann got on the board first with two runs in the top of the second inning. With two outs,
Jackie Selby walked, followed by a
Rachel Albertson single.
Kristina Del Gaiso singled to knock in Selby. Albertson then scored on a wild pitch.
Albright answered with three runs in the bottom of the second and third inning. The Lions added two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth for the 10-2 final.
Jen Sieminski pitched the game for the Knights and went 4.1 innings in the loss.
Rolls were reversed in game two as Neumann tallied 12 hits in the game. Albertson and
Bri Lagroteria led off the game with back-to-back singles.
Kierstin Fallers then singled in both Albertson and Lagroteria.
Jackie Schneider stepped to the plate and hit her first homerun of the season for an early 4-0 Knights lead.
The Lions answered with an unearned run in the first and two more in the third to pull within one, 4-3.
Vanessa Bowen led off the fifth inning with a walk and came around to score on a wild pitch for a 5-3 game. Neumann then broke open for six runs in the sixth inning. Lagroteria walked and Fallers followed with a two-run homerun, her first of the season. With one out and the bases loaded,
Grace Sperrazza hit a two-run single. The Knights added two more runs on a Lions error.
Lagroteria, Fallers, Schneider and Sperrazza each had two hits in the game. Fallers knocked in four runs.
Nicole Wisser picked up her first win at Neumann, going 6.0 innings in the circle. She allowed three unearned runs on three hits and struck out four.
Neumann (8-4) will head to Cedar Crest next Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
