Softball Picks Up a Pair of Wins Against Falcons

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took a pair of contests at Cedar Crest College on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action. The Knights won the first game 19-6 in six innings and the second game 4-3 in five innings due to darkness.
 
In the first game, Grace Sperrazza and Kate Korte' each knocked in five runs. Sperrazza finished with four hits, including a two-run homerun, and scored three runs. Korte' hit a grand slam and had three hits. Jackie Schneider and Jackie Selby each scored three runs in the game. Vanessa Bowen tallied three hits, including her second homerun of the season.
 
Jen Sieminski pitched the complete game for the win, going 6.0 innings and allowed six runs, five earned, on 10 hits. She also struck out 10.
 
After a scoreless first inning for the Knights, the Falcons came out and took a 2-0 lead after a full inning. Neumann answered back with four runs in the second inning on a two-run double by Rachel Albertson and a two-run single by Sperrazza.
 
The Knights plated seven runs in the third inning to take an 11-2 lead. Sperrazza hit her homerun in the inning, a two-run shot.
 
With a 12-6 advantage heading into the sixth inning, Neumann scored seven runs in the inning, highlighted by Korte's shot with the bases loaded.
 
The second game was a little quieter and the Knights came away with 4-3 win in five innings. Taylor Naman picked up the win in the circle, going 5.0 innings. She allowed three runs on five hits.
 
The Knights scored first this time with two runs in the first inning. With one out, Bri Lagroteria was hit by a pitch and Sperrazza walked. Schneider then singled to score Lagroteria. Sperazza came around to score before the third out for a 2-0 lead.
 
With one out in the second inning, Kristina Del Gaiso doubled and scored on a triple by Selby. Selby then scored on an error for a 4-0 lead.
 
The Falcons plated two runs in the third and one in the fifth before the game was called due to darkness.
 
Neumann (10-4) will head to Haverford on Thursday for another non-conference doubleheader. The first game is slated for begin at 3:00 PM.
