Softball Opens Conference Play with Sweep

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team opened Atlantic East Conference action with a pair of wins against Cabrini University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won game one 3-0 and game two 7-6 in 8 innings.
 
Jen Sieminski pitched a one-hit shutout for the win in the first game. She went 7.0 innings and struck out six.
 
In the bottom of the first, Grace Sperrazza led off with a double and came around to score on a single by Bri Lagroteria. In the third inning, Kate Korte' hit a two-run single for a 3-0 Neumann lead in the third inning.
 
In game two, Neumann got on the board first with an unearned run in the fourth inning. The Knights added three runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead.
 
The Cavaliers put two runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Neumann led in half. The Knights added another run in the sixth inning for a 5-2 lead.
 
Cabrini did not go quietly in the top of the seventh and scored three runs to tie the game at five. Neumann went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the seventh and the game went to extra innings.
 
In the top of the eighth, the Cavaliers runner that started on second base scored for a 6-5 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, Korte' started at second for the Knights. Emily Reid reached on a bunt base hit and Korte' moved to third base. With one out, Korte' scored on an RBI single by Rachel Albertson. Kierstin Fallers then singled to score Reid and give Neumann the walk-off win.
 
Nicole Wisser got the complete game win. Korte' had one hit in the game, coming in the fourth inning, which was her 100th career hit. 
 
Neumann (13-7, 2-0 Atlantic East) will remain at home and host Keystone for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitched is slated for 3:00 PM.
