CAMDEN, N.J. - The Neumann University men's tennis team opened its 2019 season with a victory on Saturday afternoon, taking down host Rutgers University - Camden by a score of 5-4 in non-conference action.
Daniel Rival and
Jordan Collins each won their doubles and singles match on the afternoon for the Knights, while Head Coach
Sam Miles picked up his first ever collegiate win.
Rutgers Camden took an early 2-1 lead after winning at second and third doubles. Rival and Collins teamed up for Neumann's lone win, taking home an 8-3 win at first doubles.
As the match moved to singles, Rival and Collins continued to carry the Knights. Rival won at first singles (6-2, 6-0) and Collins was victorious at second singles (6-1, 6-2). With a 3-2 lead, Neumann needed to win two of the remaining four matches to clinch the match and they did just that.
John Beck was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at fourth singles and Jeremy Baker came up clutch in sixth singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win to seal the match for the visitors.
Neumann (1-0) will return to the court on Wednesday when the team heads to Bryn Athyn College for another non-conference matchup. The contest is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM.
