HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team dropped a pair of contests at Haverford College on Thursday afternoon in non-conference action. The Fords won 4-3 in game one and 8-7 in eight innings in the second game.
The first game of the afternoon was Head Coach
Len Schuler's 1,000
th career game coached at Neumann ranging over women's basketball, baseball and softball.
In game one, the Knights scored first as
Vanessa Bowen doubled and scored on a single by
Kaylee Fiocca in the second inning. The Fords took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second and extended to a 3-1 lead in the third.
Neumann tied the game at three in the fifth inning. With one out,
Grace Sperrazza walked and
Jen Sieminski reached on an error.
Jackie Selby doubled to knock in Sperrazza.
Bri Lagroteria then reached on a fielders choice and
Carli Trice, who ran for Sieminski, scored.
Haverford took back the lead with a run in the sixth. Neumann put two runners on base in the top of the seventh, but could not get the tying run across home plate.
Sieminski went 6.0 innings in the circle for the Knights. She allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out three.
In game two, the Fords took a 4-0 lead after five innings. In the sixth, the Knights plated five runs to take a 5-4 lead. Selby, Lagroteria and Sperrazza led off the inning with back-to-back-to-back singles resulting in two runs. With two outs,
Jackie Schneider hit a pinch hit two-run double. Selby led off the seventh inning with a single and scored on a passed ball for a 6-4 Neumann lead.
The Fords tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings. The Knights took scored one run in the top of the eighth inning as Bowen scored on a fielders choice by
Kristina Del Gaiso.
In the bottom of the eighth, with two runners on base and two outs, the Fords hit a two-run single for the walk-off win.
Taylor Naman went 7.2 innings in the circle for the Knights. She allowed eight runs, five earned, on nine hits.
Neumann (19-11) heads back into Atlantic East action on Saturday when it heads to Immaculata for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM.
