ARLINGTON, Va. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team stumbled on the road at Marymount University on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 18-8 in Atlantic East Conference action.
Colin Blake was the lone bright spot for Neumann in the loss, scoring four goals on the afternoon.
Brendan Risley and
Hunter Faunce split time in goal, combining for 15 saves.
The road contest started well for the Knights, as they took an early 2-0 lead via goals from
Max Nice and
Kyle Daly in the opening three minutes of play. Marymount worked its way back into the contest though, tallying twice in the next six minutes to level the game at two apiece at the 6:37 mark of the first frame. The Saints then went up 3-2 a minute later before Blake again knotted the game up with a man-up goal at 1:53 to send the game to the second quarter tied at 3-3.
The Saints pulled further ahead in the second stanza by scoring four of the first five goals in the quarter to take a 7-4 lead. The Knights would not go quietly though, fighting their way back into the matchup late in the half with a pair of goals from Blake. The junior attacker scored with three minutes left to play, then found the back of the net with just 17 seconds left in the period to make it 7-6 in favor of Marymount heading to halftime.
Things would begin to unravel for Neumann in the third quarter. Marymount scored eight times in the frame and shut the Knights out as the hosts put the game out of reach. With the 8-0 run in the quarter, the Saints took a commanding 15-6 lead into the final frame.
Neumann got a pair of goals in the fourth quarter from
Brett McLaughlin and
Chris Bellon, but it was far too little, too late. Marymount added three more tallies to their total and cruised to the 18-8 conference win.
Neumann (6-6, 2-2 Atlantic East) will be back in action next Wednesday, April 17
th with another conference matchup. Game-time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
