SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took a pair of win at Marywood University on Thursday afternoon in Atlantic East Conference action. The Knights won the first game 3-1, followed by a 12-0 five inning win in game two.
Game one remained scoreless until the sixth inning. With one out,
Grace Sperrazza hit a double, followed by a single by
Bri Lagroteria.
Kierstin Fallers then knocked in both with a two-run single. In the top of the seventh,
Jackie Schneider led off with a solo homerun for a 3-0 lead. Sperrazza also tallied a single in the inning, her 100
th career hit.
The Pacers scored their only run with a solo homerun in the bottom of the seventh.
Jen Sieminski picked up the win, going 7.0 innings. She allowed one run on five hits and struck out three.
In game two, the Knights tallied 12 hits, led by Lagroteria with three.
Kate Korte' knocked in six runs. Lagroteria and Fallers each scored three runs.
Nicole Wisser pitched the one-hit complete game shutout.
The Knights struck quickly as Korte' knocked in two runs in the top of the first inning. Fallers knocked in
Rachel Albertson in the second inning for a 3-0 lead after two innings.
Neumann plated three more runs in the fourth inning and then capitalized on some Pacer errors and scored six unearned runs in the fifth inning.
In the fifth inning, Lagroteria hit a two-run single. Later in the inning, Korte' hit a bases clearing triple.
Neumann (22-12, 7-2 Atlantic East) will wrap up conference action on Saturday when it hosts Wesley. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
