4/25/2019 12:22:00 PM

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team has clinched a berth in the Atlantic East Conference playoffs and will play host to Marywood University this Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 PM in a first-round matchup.

The fourth-seeded Knights finished the regular season with a record of 8-6, including a 4-2 mark in conference play. The team's 4-2 record in the Atlantic East placed them in a three-way tie for second place in the conference with Gwynedd Mercy and Marywood, but due to tiebreakers the Knights received the fourth-seed. Marywood enters the playoffs as the fifth seed after finishing the season with an overall record of 5-10 and a conference record of 2-4.

Neumann will know its first-round opponent well, having just played the Pacers in its regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon. The Knights picked up a 9-3 victory over Marywood in the game, clinching home-field advantage for the opening round.
The Knights have been led all season by a balanced attack led by Colin Blake along with Drew and Eric Conlon. Blake and Drew Conlon lead the team with 47 points each on the year, while Eric Conlon tops the team in goals with 36 on the season.

Brett McLaughlin and Jack Newswanger have also been key contributors for Neumann this year. McLaughlin has been fantastic all over the field as a freshman, causing a team high 30 turnovers to go along with 49 ground balls. The defender has also chipped in with 10 goals and 10 assists on the year. Newswanger has dominated draws for the Knights all season. The sophomore face-off specialist has won 239-of-309 draws that he has taken for a 77% winning percentage, while also picking up a ridiculous 182 balls on the season.

Brendan Risley has been peaking at the right time in goal for the Knights late in the season. The junior netminder has a record of 7-5 this year with 136 saves and a 10.12 goals against average. In his last two games to end the season, he has allowed only eight goals and he has made 23 saves in those contests.

Neumann is appearing in the conference playoffs for the first time since 2014. The winner of Saturday's contest will take on either Cabrini or Gwynedd Mercy in the Atlantic East Conference semifinals next Wednesday, May 1st.
