GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team swept a pair of Atlantic East Conference games at Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday afternoon. The Knights won both game in five innings, 11-0 and 13-1.
In game one, the Knights won 11-0.
Jen Sieminski went the distance for the win in the circle. She allowed just five hits and struck out six for the shutout win.
The Knights jumped on the board with three runs in the top of the first inning.
Grace Sperrazza led off the game with a triple and scored on an RBI groundout by
Bri Lagroteria.
Kierstin Fallers walked and
Vanessa Bowen reached on an error for two runners on base with one out.
Kate Korte' and
Jackie Schneider hit back-to-back RBI singles for a 3-0 lead.
Neumann added an unearned run in the second as Fallers scored on a hit by Korte'. The Knights set 12 batters to the plate in the fourth inning and scored seven runs.
Jackie Selby had a two-run single in the inning.
In game two, Sperrazza had four RBI.
Kristina Del Gaiso and
Kaylee Fiocca each knocked in three.
Nicole Wisser allowed one run over 5.0 innings on seven hits.
After a scoreless first inning, Neumann got on the board with three runs in the second. With two runners on base, Fiocca hit a two-run single to score Selby and Del Gaiso. Fiocca came around to score on a single by Fallers.
Neumann put five runs on the board in the third and fourth innings. In the third, Del Gaiso knocked in two runs on a single and then scored on a single by Fiocca. Sperrazza stepped to the plate and hit a two-run homerun.
Del Gaiso knocked in another run in the fourth while Sperrazza hit in another pair. Lagroteria also knocked in a pairs runs in the fourth. The Griffins scored their run in the bottom of the fourth inning, spoiling the shutout bid.
Neumann (18-8, 4-0 Atlantic East) is slated to host Eastern on Tuesday in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
