Knights and Eagles Split Doubleheader

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team split a pair of non-conference games with Eastern University on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles took game one 3-1 while the Knights took the nightcap 7-4.

In game one, the Eagles scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning. The Knights scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh. Rachel Albertson singled to lead off the inning and scored as Bri Lagroteria reached on a fielders choice. Neumann had the tying run on base in the seventh, but could not get the runner home.

Nicole Wisser went 7.0 innings in the circle and allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits.

In game two, Lagroteria went 4-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. The junior hit a single in the first inning and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Kate Korte' to put the Knights up 1-0.

In the second inning, Kaylee Fiocca hit her first collegiate homerun, a two-run shot, to put Neumann up 3-0. The Eagles answered with two runs in the top of the third for a 3-2 game.

As the bottom of the third inning began, rain showers began. Neumann sent 10 batters to the plate as the raindrops fell. Korte' led off with a single and Jackie Schneider followed with a walk. Albertson then knocked in both runners with a double. Neumann plated two more runs in the inning for a 7-2 lead.

Eastern scored two more runs in the fifth inning, capitalizing on a Neumann error, but that was as close as the score would get.

Taylor Naman pitched the second game for the Knights. She went 7.0 innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits for the win.

Neumann (19-9) will hit the road for the next three doubleheaders, beginning at Haverford on Thursday. The rescheduled doubleheader is slated to begin at 3:00 PM.
