PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Neumann University men's tennis team advanced to the Atlantic East Conference championship match on Thursday afternoon, taking down third-seeded Gwynedd Mercy University in the semifinal round by a score of 5-0.
The Knights cruised to victory on the day with the help of a sweep in doubles play.
Daniel Rival and
Jordan Collins led the team off with a big 8-4 victory at first doubles, followed by an 8-2 win at second doubles from
Rod Bradbury and
Zach Dakin, and a 8-2 triumph at third doubles by
Evan King and
John Beck.
With the 3-0 advantage from the doubles portion of the match in hand, Neumann needed just two wins in singles play to seal the match. The Knights made quick work earning those victories, as Beck dominated at fifth singles by a score of 6-0, 6-0 and King was victorious at fourth singles by a count of 6-1, 6-1. Since Neumann already had the five wins it needed to clinch the match, the remainder of the contests went unfinished as the Knights claimed a 5-0 victory to propel themselves to the Atlantic East Conference championship match.
Neumann (8-3) will take on Cabrini University in the first ever Atlantic East Conference men's tennis championship match tomorrow, April 3rd. The match is slated to begin at 9:00 AM at the Legacy Tennis Center in Philadelphia.
