Women's Lacrosse Season Comes to an End at Drew

MADISON, N.J. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end on Wednesday evening in the first round of the ECAC tournament, falling to top seeded Drew University by a score of 23-10.

Kaitlyn Conrad (4 g, 1 a) and Brittany Cassidy (3 g) made the most of their final game in Neumann uniforms, each recording multi-goal games. Brylin Adams (2 g, 1 a) was also excellent in the loss, while goalies Catriona Corrigan and Sara Ropski combined for 11 saves in goal.

The Knights would hang tough against the top seeded Rangers early, battling back and forth with the hosts in the opening five minutes as each team found the back of the net twice. Adams and Courtney Petrucelli scored for the Knights, but Drew would take control from there. The Rangers scored six of the next seven goals in the contest to take an 8-3 lead with 12:41 left in the first frame. Two goals from Cassidy and Conrad sandwiched around another goal from the hosts brought the score-line back to 9-5 at 7:34, but the Rangers closed the half on a 6-1 run to head to halftime with a 15-6 lead.

Neumann tried to fight back in the second stanza, but Drew did its best to close out the game early in the period. The Rangers scored the first three goals of the period to go up 18-6 just seven minutes into the frame. Cassidy broke the run up with a Neumann goal at 21:40, but again the Rangers responded with a run. Drew scored five of the next six goals of the game over the next 18 minutes to help seal the victory. Conrad and Cassidy each closed out their careers with goals in the final two minutes, but it was too little, too late for the Knights as they fell 23-10.

Neumann finishes its season with a record of 11-9 on the year. The team will miss its four seniors, but will look to continue to grow next season as it looks to go even further in the conference playoffs.
