ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team started out the season with a shutout of Cairn University, 3-0, on Friday afternoon.
Kaitlin Thomas, who scored all three goals for the Knights, netted her first goal in the 12
th minute with a shot inside the 18. Thomas then netted another goal in the 35
th minute to give Neumann the 2-0 lead before the half came to an end.
In the 56
th minute, Thomas put her third goal in the back of the net to give the Knights insurance to take the 3-0 win over the Highlanders.
Thomas led the Knights with four shots. Neumann out shot Cairn 10-5 overall and 4-3 on net. Freshmen goalkeepers,
Payton Clements and
Emily McCormick, split time in net for their first collegiate appearance and finished with combination of three saves for the shutout.
Neumann (1-0) is right back on the field tomorrow as it will host Penn State Altoona. Action is slated to get underway at 2:00 PM.
