ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's soccer team shut out Penn State Altoona, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon for its second win of the young season and second straight shutout.
The Knights held the pace in the first half, out shooting the Lions 10-2, but either team could get the ball in the back of the net and the teams went into halftime scoreless.
Early in the second half, the Lions marched down the field and had a shot go off the crossbar. Keeper
Anna Attardi picked up the ball before it could roll into the net off the bar.
In the 60
th minute,
Jess Cirone took the ball as it bounced off a few defenders and put the ball in the back of the net to open the scoring. In the 81
st minute, Neumann received a free kick just outside of the 18-yard line.
Lexi Concklin took full advantage and put the ball over everyone's head, including the goalie, for her first collegiate goal and an insurance tally for the Knights.
Attardi made three saves for the shutout win. The defense worked together for the second shutout in two games this season.
Neumann (2-0) will next face Delaware Valley University on Wednesday. Action is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
