Second Half Goals Doom Men's Soccer in Loss to Dickinson

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team returned to action after a week-long break with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of visiting Dickinson College on Tuesday evening.

Seth Walker made three saves in goal for the Knights in the loss, while Brady Simon led the team with three shots.

Dickinson had the better of the play early in the match, outshooting Neumann by a count of 10-4 in the opening period of play. Despite the chances though, the Red Devils could not get a ball past Walker, who made all three of his saves in the first frame to keep the game scoreless. His best save of the half came midway through the period, when he made a point blank save diving to his left to keep the game at 0-0. The Knights fought back late in the half with a few quality chances and three corner kicks, but they were stymied as well as the game went to halftime level at zeroes.

Neumann opened the second stanza buzzing as Simon just missed putting the Knights ahead with a shot from just outside the box that went just over the crossbar. The hosts could not keep the positive momentum rolling though, as Dickinson took control of the match via set pieces. The Red Devils jumped out in front off a free kick just inside the Knights end. A driven ball into the box was misjudged by Walker and ended up in the back of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The mistake was compounded 14 minutes later when a long throw in was redirected to a streaking Dickinson player who slotted the ball past a helpless Walker to make it 2-0. The Red Devils then sealed the win with another goal off a free kick in the 76th minute to clinch the 3-0 road victory.

Neumann (2-5-1) will take the next three days to prepare for another non-conference matchup versus Lebanon Valley College on Saturday, September 28th. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
