FREDERICK, Md. – The Neumann University field hockey team used two late goals to come back and defeat Hood College 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
After the teams played a scoreless first half, Hood found the back of the net just before the end of the third quarter to take a 1-0 lead.
Nicole Turner, off a pass from
Erica D'Mello in the 49
th minute, tied the game at one. As time was winding down, and overtime was in the back of the mind,
Nani Espada scored.
Tiffany Flowers took a penalty corner and sent the ball to
Sam Picker, who got the ball to Espada for the game-winner.
Lizzie Yu picked up the win in net, making nine saves over the 60 minutes. Flowers also tallied a defensive save. The Knights outshot the Blazers 23-12 overall and 15-11 on net. Neumann also tallied 15 penalty corners, one of which led to the game-winning goal.
Neumann (2-5) will remain on the road and head to Bryn Mawr College on Saturday morning. Action is slated to get underway at 11:00 AM.
